today. earlier connecticut police escorted a hearse with victoria soto trying to protect her students she died hiding them in a closet. back-to-back funerals with mourners today paying respects to the school principal there who reportedly died trying to stop the gunman after he forced his way into the school. investigators are trying to figure out why he did it. what drove the 20-year old to kill all those people, mostly kids? a person who knew the family says lanza may have snapped after learning his mother was landing to commit him to a psychiatric facility. he may have thought his mother cared more about the school kids with whom she volunteered more than she cared about him of the likely, we will never know for sure. connecticut chief medical examiner is looking into genetic clues that could provide answers about the young man who left behind so much carnage. rick, what is the latest? rick: well, as you mentioned, the medical examiner is asking for help from scientist on what might have led him down the dark path. the medical examiner is waiting for toxicology results and does not

colleague from connecticut, rosa delauro, has introduced that bill year after year. you said that the federal government can borrow money, 10-year notes, even 15-year notes, somewhere around 1.5%, maybe toward 2%. if we were to borrow that, put it into an infrastructure bank and then loan money to infrastructure projects that have a cash flow, sanitation facility, water facility, toll bridges and numerous other kinds of infrastructure, which is desperately needed, we could have a financing system that over time would actually make money for the federal government. could borrow at 1.5%, loan at 1.75%, have a margin there, the money would flow back in. you'd get that revolving. the president has actually proposed this in his american jobs act. he's picked this up during his debate, the fiscal cliff negotiations, put it back on the table. we ought to be doing that. in doing so we will create tens of thousands, indeed hundreds of thousands of american jobs. american jobs. and if we couple that with buy american so that the equipment, the steel, the concrete, the other ingredients

children and teachers and others in connecticut, it is a time for congress to begin a thoughtful dialogue on what we can do to deal with these mass casualty incidences in our country. they have been going on for some time, but perhaps when we see the faces of children, principals, teachers, and others that burns upon our hearts and motivates us to take further action. i want to make sure that, mr. speaker, that congress takes the appropriate action in a thoughtful, willful, determined way, and not jump to quick conclusions as if simple fixes will prevent this from happening. first, to the parents of children across america who are asking questions, mr. speaker, i'd like to offer some of this advice and also in my background as a psychologist, it's important for people to remember this, parents should be asking their children what they have heard about the incident. we should listen to their concerns and their emotions. we should answer their questions with age appropriate information. we should support and comfort and reassure them of their safety at home and school. we should observe and

to turn now to the latest from newtown, connecticut. six more of the victims from friday's massacre will be laid to rest today. as life slowly begins to return to normal for most of the other students in that school district. but in a community still on-edge, another threat kept an elementary school closed. amy robach joins us, now, from newtown. amy, hard to believe this jarring development, happening a week later. >> reporter: it is a difficult situation for everyone here. and we know that the mourning and the funerals continue this week. one of the many reasons why sandy hook students will not be returning to school until after the holidays. in fact, the school superintendent just told me they are planning on january 2nd. that said, newtown public schools are in full swing today. we've seen dozens of school buses driving through town. but those schools are certainly still facing many challenges bringing their students back into the classroom. this morning, parents of sandy hook elementary students say their children will return to school some time in january. relocating to this e

in utah from a connecticut-style incident. so the student brought a gun with him to class. that's according to the reporting of school district officials who say that kid is now in police custody. happened yesterday as it turns out, just outside salt lake city. and according to school officials, other students told police that this sixth grader actually pointed the weapon at them during recess and made threats. one father says the school should have gone on lockdown. >> 3:00 o'clock, school gets out at 3:45. there was no lockdown, no one was called, nothing was done. then we had to hear from our kids. >> shepard: the school spokesman says school staff found an unloaded gun and ammunition in the child's backpack. the boy is in juvenile detention. he also faces what they're calling a lengthy suspension from school. >>> in other news, the white house says president obama would actively support a bill to renew the assault weapons ban that expired eight years ago. some republicans claim that ban didn't work the first time and only punishes law abiding gun owners. senator diane feinst
